Justification:
The extent of occurrence (EOO) of this subspecies covers less than 860 km2. This geographic range is severely fragmented and undergoing continuing decline in area, extent and quality of habitat. Based on these premises, it is listed as Endangered.
Previously published Red List assessments:
2008 Data Deficient (DD)

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: This subspecies is found in east-central Madagascar. It is known only from its type locality of Beanamalao, and presumably a small area north of the Nesivolo River and south of the Mangoro and Onive Rivers (Rabarivola et al., 2007). Further field studies are required to determine the exact extent of the distribution, and in particular the boundaries between it and neighboring forms of Hapalemur.

Native:
Madagascar
Continuing decline in extent of occurrence (EOO): Yes

Population [top]

Population: Population size is not known. However, it is likely in decline due to habitat loss.
Current Population Trend: Decreasing
Additional data:
Population severely fragmented: Yes

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:

It is an inhabitant of forest areas, generally in stands of dense bamboo and areas of bamboo vines.

Systems: Terrestrial
