Taxonomic Notes:

Olivieri et al. (2006) described the form M. lokobensis also from Nosy Be Island. The type localities of M. lokobensis and M. mamiratra are the same, and the descriptions of the two forms are identical. Since M. mamiratra has priority, it seems best to consider M. lokobensis a synonym pending further investigation.

Justification: Listed as Data Deficient as this species is only recently described, and further information is required to determine the taxonomic validity of this species, its limits of distribution, and its population status. If indeed it is confined to Nosy Be, and there are evident threats, then it probably will require listing in a threatened category.

Conservation Actions:	Listed on CITES Appendix I. Present in the Lokobe Special Reserve (Andriantompohavana et al. 2006). As of 2007 this species was represented in only a single zoological collection (Tsimbazaza, Madagascar) (Mittermeier et al. 2008).
