Justification:
A tree endemic to Ecuador's southern Andes, where it is known only from the original 1944 collection near Tambo Consuelo, between Sevilla de Oro and Méndez. The area between Sevilla de Oro and Méndez has been intensively collected and the lack of recent collections is surprising. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
