Red List Category & Criteria: Near Threatened ver 3.1
Year Published: 2004

Reviewer(s): Valencia, R., Pitman, N., Léon-Yánez, S. & Jørgensen, P.M. (Ecuador Plants Red List Authority)
Justification:
A tree endemic to Ecuador's Amazon lowlands. Known from several collections in the Parque Nacional Yasuní, along the Pompeya-Iro pipeline road, between kilometers 10 and 96. Three large-scale tree inventories in the area recorded 21 individuals in a 200,000–tree sample and suggest that the individuals grow in clumps (N. Pitman et al., H. Romero-Saltos et al., R. Valencia et al., unpublished data). Despite the species' low population density, the immense extension of primary forest in the park and the adjacent Reserva Etnica Huaorani suggests a very significant population. Additional subpopulations are expected in the Peruvian and Colombian Amazon. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
