The species has a small area of occupancy, is severely fragmented and there is continuing decline in habitat quality and the population numbers fluctuate.

Range Description:This species is endemic to Iberian Andalusia. It is known from three subpopulations in the Sub Andalusia Cordovan and from one subpopulation in the Nieves mountain range (Málaga).

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:This geophyte grows on calcareous soils. It is found in small cleared woods that form part of the meadows associated with water courses and enclosed irrigated land. The species is observed in areas where the herbaceous stratum dominates with some dispersed trees on a rocky substrate.

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): The major threats to this species are grazing and trampling by livestock. The change in agricultural activity is crucial for the survival of the species.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: The subpopulations are encountered in the Natural Zones of the Mountain Ranges of Sub Andalusia and Nieves. The species is also included in the conservation project for the vegetation of the Cordovan Province undertaken by the Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía. Seeds are stocked in the genebank of Vegetal Andaluz.
