Justification: Endemic to one lake in Israel. The species has not been recorded since 1990, in spite of searches for the species both in the lake and in local markets. Destruction of breeding habitat (marsh area in north part of the lake) may be the reason for its apparent disappearance. Drought resulted in the spawning area drying out in 1991 then again in mid 1990s. The species may already be extinct, but further searches are necessary to confirm this. |
