Justification: Endemic to Lake Malawi where it is known from only four restricted locations at Chindunga rocks (near Chipoka), Mumbo, Thumbi West, Mbenji and Nakatenga. |

| Habitat and Ecology: | Occurs in the intermediate habitat. A predator feeding on fish as well as invertebrates. Territorial males have been observed at Chindunga rocks (where this species commonly occurs). The males dig nests between rocks on the sand. Known by its scientific name in the aquarium trade. |
