Endemic to Lake Malawi. There are taxonomic uncertainties around this species. Possibly it is a species complex (J. Snoeks, pers comm., East Africa Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment workshop, Dec. 2003)

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:Occurs in open sandy areas or areas with soft substrates such as mud and diatomaceous substances at depths between 30–140 m. Feeds on invertebrates. Reported not to have been exported in the aquarium trade (1990). Max. size: 16 cm TL.
