Widely distributed in the northern part of the lake, North of Chilumba, Likoma and Chisumulu Islands, Usisya, Chitande, Mara Point, Ikombe to Hai Reef (Mozambique border), Cobue, Wikihi (Mozambique), Undu Reef (Tanzania), Ikombe to Hai Reef (Mozambique border). |

| Habitat and Ecology: | Occurs over rocky and stony substrates in shallow water to a depth of 40 m. Most abundant between 5 and 20 m. Feeds primarily on plankton although territorial males feed on aufwuchs. Males hold their territories in front of rocks or between stones. Females are solitary or live in groups. Known as 'Redtop Afra' or ' Whitetop Afra' in the aquarium trade. |
