Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: It occurs in the open water and can be found in some areas as down to 150 m but has been mostly captured in trawls in small numbers at around 50 m. It was thought to be a paedophage, which steals eggs and fry from the mouths of brooding females but is a piscivore. It occurs in catches of deep-water demersal trawls and is also exploited by the artisanal fishery using hand lines as well as deep-set gill nets. Max. size: 30 cm TL.
