The species appears to have no current threats, however it has a very restricted distribution, and is known from only one location: a 10 km stretch of stream (Freyhof, J. pers com) in Mastarsko blato, an extensive wetland adjacent to Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The species is probably spread more widely in the Neretva basin.
