It is estimated that C. vettonica has an area of occupancy (AOO) of less than 5,000 km² and an extent of occurrence (EOO) less than 500 km². It is only found at one location (Arrago River a tributary to the Tagus River) where it is threatened by agricultural water pollution, drought and introduced predators.
