Justification:
This species was previously only known from two sites on the “Piccolo Ghibiè” east of Jima. Recently it was found at three additional sites: it was found to be numerous south of Gore, 180 km west of the type locality, and near Bulbul and on the Gibe River, both near the type locality (Clausnitzer and Dijkstra 2005). The habitat requirements of Pseudagrion kaffinum are not very specific and it seems to be quite tolerant to human influence on the landscape. Still it is only known from five localities in Ethiopia's southwestern highlands, but assumed to occur on more localities. Nevertheless the Ethiopian highlands have experienced and still experience a drastic degradation of the environment due to the increase of population, agriculture and wetland pollution and siltation. The extent of occurrence of Pseudagrion kaffinum is far below 20,000 km² and the area of known occupancy far below 2,000 km². For both a continuing decline in area and habitat quality is inferred for the past, present and future. It is listed as Vulnerable.
