| Range Description: | This species is known so far only from the type locality, Limoeiro do Norte, at 250m asl in the state of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil. It presumably occurs more widely within the river systems of the Caatinga vegetation system. |

| Habitat and Ecology: | The only records of this species are from shallow water where there is a muddy bottom and much aquatic vegetation, in temporary pools, lagoons and rivers, in dry Caatinga savannah areas. It might well be that this is a semi-aquatic species. It is presumed to be viviparous. |
