Taxonomy [top]

Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family
ANIMALIA CHORDATA AMPHIBIA CAUDATA PLETHODONTIDAE

Scientific Name: Nototriton tapanti
Species Authority: Good & Wake, 1993

Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Vulnerable D2 ver 3.1
Year Published: 2008
Date Assessed: 2008-01-01
Assessor(s): Bolaños, F., Wake, D. & Savage, J.
Reviewer(s): Stuart, S.N., Chanson, J.S., Cox, N.A. & Young, B.E.
Justification:
Listed as Vulnerable because it is known from only a single location. The species is poorly known, and it is plausible that it is restricted to the Orosi River Valley. Further surveys within the area are needed to confirm the distribution and threats to the species. If the species is found to have a restricted range the species may qualify as Critically Endangered because of ongoing habitat loss.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: The only known locality for this species is close to Parque Nacional Tapantí, in which this species might occur (although it has not so far been discovered there, despite being searched for).
