Justification:
Listed as Endangered because its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 km2, all individuals are in fewer than five locations, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat in the Western Ghats of India.

Range Description: This species is known only from the type locality within Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, in the southern Western Ghats of India, at an elevation of 700m asl.

Population [top]

Population: It is a recently described frog that has only been recorded twice, and is reportedly not a common species (Ravichandran pers. comm.).
Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: The original collection took place in shallow water within disturbed tropical moist forest, close to a cardamom plantation. It is also believed to occur within undisturbed forest. It presumably breeds by larval development in streams.

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): The major threat to this species is the cultivation of cardamom and tea in the buffer zone of Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: It is currently known only from the Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, and it is included in national legislation. There is a need for further survey work to determine whether the species might occur outside the type locality.
