Justification:
Listed as Endangered because its Extent of Occurrence is less than 5,000 km2, its distribution is severely fragmented, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat in the Ecuadorian Andes

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: This species is known from more than ten locations in the vicinity of Pilalo on the Pacific slope of the Cordillera Occidental in central Ecuador, where it has been recorded from 760-2,486m asl.

Population [top]

Population: It is not an uncommon species.
Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Systems: Terrestrial; Freshwater

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): Agriculture, both crops and livestock, as well as logging, are major threats to the species’ habitat. Some other species of Eleutherodactylus that are associated with montane streams have undergone dramatic declines and disappearances, possibly due to chytridiomycosis, so the status of this species should be monitored carefully.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: Its range is not included in any protected areas, and there is an urgent need for the protection of the montane forest habitat of this species.
