A shrub endemic to eastern Ecuador, where it is known from two subpopulations in wet forest. One was discovered at kilometer 25 of the Hollin-Loreto road and the other on the slopes of Volcán Sumaco, inside the national park. The principal threats are deforestation, road construction and colonization. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
