A shrub endemic to Ecuador's dry coastal forest. Two subpopulations are in the Parque Nacional Machalilla: one near Aguas Blancas, on the Puerto López-Las Peñas road, and the other on the Isla de la Plata. A third subpopulation apparently has been recorded near Manta. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
