Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known only from the type specimen, collected in 1941 near Manglaralto, Guayas province. Although the area has been badly deforested and is open to colonization and road construction, remnant populations are expected to occur in the many private reserves of the region. Considered Critically Endangered due to the near-total destruction of the primary forest of Guayas over the last century. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
