Justification: A shrub endemic to Ecuador's coastal lowlands, where it is known from three subpopulations in northern Esmeraldas province. Confirmed to occur inside the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas and the Reserva Etnica Awá. The principal threat is habitat destruction following logging and colonization. A Peruvian collection needs confirmation (Vásquez 1997). |
