A subshrub endemic to the western slopes of the Ecuadorean Andes, where eight records are known from Zaruma and Pampa de los Cedros. Not collected since 1950. The principal threat is mining, especially around Zaruma. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
