Piper brachystylum is endemic to eastern Ecuador, where it is known only from the type specimen, collected in 1941. No precise data exists for the location nor altitude of the collection. Habitat destruction is the only known threat.

Range Description: Endemic to eastern Ecuador, where it is known only from the type specimen, collected in 1941 in Cantón Archidona (Napo province). No precise data exists for the location nor altitude of the collection. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
