Justification:
Piper achupallasense is endemic to shrubby paramo in southern Ecuador. Collected just once, in 1943. Habitat destruction is the only known threat.

Range Description: Endemic to shrubby paramo in southern Ecuador. Collected just once, in 1943, along the Achupallas creek, in Zamora-Chinchipe province. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
