Justification:
A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from five populations in the Guayas and El Oro provinces. A third population in Loja is composed of cultivated plants from the Santa Rosa population in El Oro. The holotype, from a cacao plantation in Balao, was destroyed in Berlin. The general habitat of the region is dry coastal forest, but the species has mostly been collected inside wet coastal forest remnants. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but may occur in similar habitats inside the Reserva Ecológica Manglares-Churute. Considered Critically Endangered due to the large-scale destruction of Ecuador's coastal forest over the last 50 years. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
