A recently described herb or shrub endemic to Andean Ecuador. Known from a single 1996 collection made above 1700 m in the Los Cedros private reserve, in Imbabura province. The plants grow singly and sparsely in the understory. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but may be found in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
