Justification:
An epiphytic herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from fewer than five collections in semi-deciduous forests near the border between Cañar, Azuay, Guayas, and Los Ríos provinces. Also recorded in El Oro province in 1979 on the Guayaquil-Machala road, 1 km south of Ponce Enriquez. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but one population occurs in the Bosque Protector Molleturo-Mullopungo (Manta Real), where is common on cacao trees. Considered Critically Endangered due to the high deforestation and fragmentation rate of its habitat over the last 50 years. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
