An epiphytic herb endemic to Ecuador, better known from cultivated collections than in the wild. Never abundant, with only one or two plants recorded in each locale. Protected in the Reserva Ecológica Antisana and may also occur in the Parque Nacional Sumaco-Napo-Galeras and the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
