A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador's southern Andes, where it is known from eight populations. Three of them are protected inside the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. Potentially present in similar habitats at 2500–3500 m elevation throughout the southern Andes. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
