Justification:
A tree endemic to Ecuador, where it is common in wet forest on the northern coast, in the western foothills of the Andes. Protected in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas and present in the Awá indigenous reserve. Considered Vulnerable due to massive habitat disturbance in the region during the last 50 years. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
