Justification:
A shrub endemic to Andean Ecuador, where it is known exclusively from the type collection, made in 1945 between Oña and the Río Yacuambi. The locale is outside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but additional populations may occur in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. The principal threats are overgrazing and fires. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums.
