A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single 1955 collection. Discovered on the northwestern slopes of Cerro Corazón, southeast of Machachi. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’ protected areas network, but may be present in the Reserva Ecológica Los Ilinizas or the Refugio de Vida Silvestre Pasochoa. The geographical coordinates of the current collections in the TROPICOS database are incorrect. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
