Justification:
A shrub or tree endemic to Ecuador, where it is known only from the type collection made in 1975. The exact location of the collection is unknown since the label only mentions "Pichincha"; it is not clear if this refers to Volcán Pichincha or to the province. The species was not found in a thorough search for Clusia in montane forest by X. Buitrón in 1985–1986. However, due to the recent description of the species and the continued existence of large unexplored areas in Pichincha, the Vulnerable category is suggested. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
