This is an undescribed species with voucher specimens held at the American Museum of Natural History and University of Michigan Museum of Zoology. This species remains abundant in the middle and upper reaches of the Laroka-Rianila basin. It is replaced in low altitude (less than 100 m a.s.l) habitats by B. madagascariensis. Pending major shifts in land use in the basin, this species is assessed as Vulnerable on the basis of its extent of occurrence and area of occupancy being less than 20,000km² and 2,000 km², respectively, and a continuing decline in distribution due to the above mentioned pressures.
