This species is poorly known. The exact location of the type specimen is unprecise, but Rauh (1995) states that the species grows at Vinanibe. The extent of occurrence and area of occupancy for this species are unknown, however, this species is likely to be restricted to the Vinanibe area, very close to the city of Fort-Dauphin. It is therefore rated as VU D2.
