This species has an extent of occurrence of 4701.06 km² and an area of occupancy of 4860.79 km². Recorded from eight localities and comprises two to five subpopulations. The Itampolo collection may be misidentified. Although still common, there is continuing decline to to habitat loss and degradation.

Range Description: South-west Madagascar: Fort-Dauphin area, possibly extending towards Itampolo. E. decorsei is common throughout its range.

Major Threat(s): Habitat degradation, fire, habitat clearing for charcoal. This species is also eaten by Zebus.
