Justification: The species is common in suitable habitats on Nightingale Island; this is treated as a single location due to the small size of the island (c. 4 km²). It was collected only once on Inaccessible Island: Hall H. N. 82, 7 November 1982, on the plateau above Blenden Hall (BM) and seen there recently by Peter Ryan (pers. comm.). Since it wasn’t found on Inaccessible on earlier occasions it is possibly rare and/or restricted to a small area; the ecology of the species makes it likely that it occurs only on the western edge of Inaccessible in low-growing wet heath and possibly in penguin rookeries in Spartina arundinacea tussock. The extent of occurrence is less than 18 km² and the area of occupancy is likely to be less than 10 km². Since the species occurs only on two isolated locations the population is considered here to be severely fragmented. |

| Range Description: | Endemic to Tristan da Cunha (Inaccessible Island, Nightingale Island). Extent of occurrence: <16 km². Area of occupancy: <10 km². Two subpopulations on Nightingale and Inaccessible. Common in suitable habitats on Nightingale Island, likely to be rare on Inaccessible. |
| Countries: | Native: Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (Tristan da Cunha) |

| Population Trend: |
Unknown
|
| Habitat and Ecology: | Occurs in disturbed and open habitats, e.g., around albatross nests, in penguin rookeries, on paths, also in Spartina arundinacea tussock, open patches in Phylica woodland, and sea cliffs. |
| Systems: | Terrestrial |
| Major Threat(s): | Vulnerable due to the small area of occupancy with only two subpopulations. Potential threats are fire and introduced species. On Nightingale C. moseleyi shares its habitats with the introduced C. australis, but C. moseleyi is more common and no hybrids were observed. |
| Conservation Actions: | Inaccessible Island is a Nature Reserve. |
