Justification:
A newly described species that is known only from one collection within the Korup National Park, in South West Province, Cameroon. This genus has been listed as Endangered due to it’s highly localized distribution within the park, as well as the undetermined exploitation of this genus at a local level for building purposes.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: The subpopulation is located within Korup National Park, South West Province, Cameroon. The Korup project area, where Korupodendron was collected, encompasses 2510 km². It is thought that as many as 200 individuals of K. songweanum may exist at the 500 m altitudinal band.

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: A tree that has been recorded on the rocky lower slopes of Mt. Juahan in lowland evergreen forest. Some tree species associated with Korupodendron songweanum are Napoleonaea egertonii E.G.Baker, Allanblackia monticola Mildbr., Pachypodanthium staudtii Engl. & Diels, Baikaiea insignis Benth. and Uvariopsis sp.

Major Threat(s): It is not known if the exploitation of K. songweanum for building purposes is sustainable, it is thought that this exploitation may cause a serious decline in the number of individuals of this species.
