Justification: A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from three collections. Two of the collections were reported in unspecified locales of Pichincha province; a third was reported in Monte Ilaló, near Quito. The species has not been collected in nearly 50 years. The rapid growth of the city of Quito has drastically reduced native surrounding forests, potentially putting this species at high risk. The only type was apparently destroyed in the Berlin herbarium during the Second World War. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. |
