A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from three subpopulations in Loja and one in Chimborazo. The Loja subpopulations include one reported in Sozoranga in 1931, one in El Calvario in 1963 and one in an unknown locale in 1974. The type was collected before 1931 in the town of "Sacaranga", which does not exist on recent maps. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
