Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is widely distributed in the Andean region, especially in the eastern cordillera. Known from 15 subpopulations, some of them protected inside the Parque Nacional Llanganates and the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca; other subpopulations have been recorded in areas near Parque Nacional Cajas. Additional subpopulations may occur along the Andes. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.

Range Description: Widely distributed in the Andean region, especially in the eastern cordillera. Known from 15 subpopulations within the provinces of Azuay, Cañar, Carchi, Cotopaxi, Imbabura, Loja, Morona-Santiago, Napo, Pichincha and Tungurahua.
