A vine or liana endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single collection made in 1876, in an unknown Andean forest of Zamora-Chinchipe province. Could potentially occur in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
