A terrestrial fern endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from at least 10 collections in the central paramos. Occurs inside the Parque Nacional Llanganates, where it is abundant, and in the Parque Nacional Sangay. The type was collected on the western slopes of Volcán Pichincha. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the main threat.

Range Description: Known from at least 10 collections in the central paramos in the Ecuadorian provinces of Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Pichincha and Tungurahua.
