A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador where it is known from one population in the Amazonian lowlands. The population was discovered at the union of the Río Pucayacu and the Río Bobonaza which is not inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. Known from two collections, one made 124 years ago and the other 19 years ago. The population size is small but the species is not considered very threatened because much of the surrounding area is still forested and well-preserved. In 1997 the species was listed as Endangered. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
