Justification: A terrestrial herb endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from eight subpopulations mostly in Loja province. Approximately four subpopulations have been recorded inside the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. The species has an unusual distribution, with a few geographically isolated subpopulations scattered from the northern to southern Ecuadorian Andes; with more collections in the Andean region, new subpopulations may be found in intermediate locales and in protected areas. The only type was apparently destroyed in the Berlin herbarium during the Second World War. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. |
