Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from four subpopulations widely distributed in the western Andes with a wide altitudinal range. One subpopulation has been reported in western Carchi province, and another between Puerto Quito and La Independencia. The collections from Guayas and Cotopaxi provinces are from unknown locales. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
