Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from two subpopulations in the upper Andean forests of Pichincha province. The first subpopulation was recorded in 1923 in San Ignacio; the second in an unknown locale. The principal threat is deforestation. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
