Justification:
An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from two collections of the type population, located at kilometer 59 of the Vilcabamba-Zumba road, Zamora province. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but may be present in similar habitats of the southeastern Parque Nacional Podocarpus on the slopes of Cerro Toledo. The principal threat is the conversion of forest to croplands. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
