Justification:
An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from two subpopulations in the Andes of Azuay province. The type was collected in an unknown paramo locale and the other subpopulation recorded in a high-elevation Andean forest remnant 3 km along the Sígsig-Chigüinda road, 2,500 m above sea level. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network. The principal threat is the conversion of Andean forest to croplands. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
