Justification: A terrestrial bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from three collections on the San Isidro-El Angel road between 3,000 and 3,500 m. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but may be present in the shrubby paramo of the Reserva Ecológica El Angel. The principal threat is fire set by humans. Cultivated as a hedge because of its spiny leaves. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. |
